Product Description

2009 album from the Grammy Award winning Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Famer. SoulBook is a collection of classic '60s and '70s era Soul favorites sung by one of the most interpretive voices in music. Stewart is personally passionate about this project, which is a return to his beginnings when he fronted The Jeff Beck Band and the critically-revered band The Faces, iconic in the history books for fusing American roots music - Rock, Soul and Blues. Soulbook reunites Stewart with his longtime collaborators, producers Steve Tyrell and Steve Jordan, of Rolling Stones/Xpensive Winos fame, who also brought in top musicians Ray Parker Jr., Waddy Watchel, Darrell Jones, Dean Parks and David Paich to join Rod in the studio for the album.

Wonderful re-do

This is a wonderful re-do of many old favorites. No attempt to change the music, just put his own spin. If you like some oldies and you like Rod Stewart, you will like this.

The expected

I really liked the songs selected in this album. Rod Stewart did it again with his style. I say, soul lovers, don't miss it.

Fun and Takes You Back

Dang! This brings me back to high school, which shows how stinking old I am. Yes, many of the reviews here give a clear "thumbs-down" to this album, but can't an aging rock star simply chill out and have a little fun with the material from his younger days? Rod has always had an affinity for Soul music, and he can bash it out with the best of them. Some of the material here is not what many would choose as the best choices, considering the vast archive of great Soul and R&B out there. However, it is a fun album, and I like Rod's interpretation of the songs. It has a very old feel to it, almost sentimental. Okay, go ahead and groan and laugh, but I absolutely love what he did with "Rainy Night in Georgia." I also love the original Brook Benton version. It's just a great song! Wonderful imagery. And, no one can deliver the lyric "I'm cold and I'm lonely" as Rod does here. I wanted to give him a warm dry coat and a cellphone, "Here, dude - call your gal." In a nutshell, this is a good album. Not greatness, but likeable and good for many listenings. Heck, you can even dance to it.
