Wii, like all the previous releases in the Super Mario Bros. franchise is a side-scrolling platforming game where players collect coins as they attempt to make their way through progressively more difficult game levels using their ability to time jumps over obstacles and avoid a slew of enemies. But although the game contain several well-deserved nods to previous games in the series in the form of iconic characters like Mario, Luigi and two Toads, as well as familiar enemies, sound effects and levels, it is not simply another trip down Mario Bros. memory lane. Taking advantage of the flexibility and power of the Wii and Wii Remote, New Super Mario Bros. Wii manages to preserve the retro experience that fans love about the series, while adding new game features. Notable additions among these include, expansive play levels and new powerups and characters, but by far the most important, and in fact game-defining new feature is simultaneous multiplayer. A Franchise First: Simultaneous Multiplayer Since the very first Super Mario Bros. game took the world by storm in the late 1980s gamers anxious to get into the action have patiently and impatiently waited their turn as the infamous 'player 2.' Those days are no more. In New Super Mario Bros. Wii players can now navigate the side-scrolling worlds alone as before or invite up to three others to join them at the same time, on the same level, at any point in the game for competitive and cooperative multiplayer fun. With the multiplayer mode, the newest installment of the most popular video game franchise is designed to bring yet another type of family entertainment into living rooms and engage groups of friends in fast-paced Super Mario Bros. fun. Controller Choices Via the Wii Remote In another nod to the series' Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) roots, the Wii Remote controller used with New Super Mario Bros. Wii is held sideways, allowing for easy, classic inputs using the D-pad to direct playable characters, the 1 button to jump and 2 button to spit out projectiles like snowballs and fireballs. In addition, players can access powerups with their choice of either the push of a button, or by shaking the Wii remote, again demonstrating the perfect merging of classic gameplay and modern game design which is New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Key Game Features New Super Mario Bros. Wii offers a combination of cooperation and competition. Players can pick each other up to save them from danger or toss them into it. Supports 2-4 players in multiplayer mode. Mario, Luigi and two Toads are all playable characters, while many others from the Mushroom Kingdom make appearances throughout the game. Players can even ride different Yoshi characters and use their tongues to swallow enemies – or their fellow players. In some areas, players use the motion abilities of the Wii Remote controller. The first player to reach a seesaw might make it tilt to help his or her character reach a higher platform – and then tilt it incorrectly just to mess with other players. New items include the propeller suit, which will shoot players high into the sky with just a shake of the Wii Remote and Mario’s new ability to transform into Penguin Mario. At the end of each stage during the simultaneous multiplayer mode, players are ranked based on their score, the coins collected and the number of enemies defeated.

Customer Reviews

Get this game, it is AMAZING!!!!

Super Mario Bros is addictive in every way. Since I got my first Nintendo console, game that came with the package was Super Mario Bros, best move Nintendo ever made. It became a staple for the Nintendo empire. Following throughout the years game giant kept pushing the product, and some Mario Bros were not as exciting as water down low graphics game that came into play on first generation Nintendo. Original game was low tech, but it was purely a clever experience, one example graphics and presentation is useless if you don't have a good theme, game play and creativity. Since first nintendo, I did not pursue to buy another nintendo console, like N64, or gamecube.. When this game came out I went to BestBuy and bought the whole wii console, purely for this game. Nintendo is back, the magic, the excitement, although I am a grown man, my childish urge keeps grabbing for the controller. It is NOT steroid popping graphics gulping game, although it is the prettiest, more detailed Super Mario that ever came out. The goal is to be creative, follow the story line, and is genius in clever ways to entertain the player. One added bonus that Nintedo never had in the past: controller feedback, shaking and moving... Amazing game. One other reason to buy console is Super Mario Galaxy 1, 2. #2 is raved by the industry as one of the best games ever made, period!

Not as much fun as I'd hoped

Not too much more I can say than the others, but there is one big thing. It seems like Nintendo was focused more on making a difficult game than a fun one. This game had some of the best features of Mario 3 and Super Mario World, but barely used them. Yoshi doesn't even appear in every world!

All in all, I'd say rent this. I beat it in less than a week, and am about to sell it back.

I bought the game for my grandsons, but my daughter says the whole family really loves the game, after the kids go to bed she and my son in law play.

Review from old school Metroid fan

I have been playing Metroid for a long, long time. That said, I think that Other M is not a good Metroid game at all. It started with Fusion and now this.

-They lead you by the hand the entire game even to the point of locking doors behind you so you can't go back.
-After you clear a room of enemies they show you on the map exactly where the hidden secrets are which is very, very annoying.
-Graphics are decent but not great.
-The story is emphasized too much and it is terrible. Samus' character is effectively ruined for me now.
-Cut scenes are very intrusive to Metroid and I really didn't like them.
-The way you get upgrades is unbelievably stupid.
-The controls are bad. Switching from 3rd to 1st person is a bad idea. I wish they had just made a 2D game.

Essentially, if you a Metroid fan that started on NES, GB or SNES then this game is NOT for you. I don't recommed this as a Metroid game because it isn't Metroid. The past 2 games Sakamoto has made in this series have all lead you by the hand and if this shows the direction for Metroid then Metroid isn't for me anymore. Saddening, really.

Needless to say I hate this game.

Lov it

I love this game! I think it's the best Mario wii out there... It brings back all the old memories of old school plus a lot more newer stuff! I have some much fun playing it!
