Product Description

Designed for severe overpronators, the ASICS® Gel Evolution 5 features a DuoMax® Support System that won't interfere with the foot's natural motion. GEL® cushioning technology attenuates shock on impact, and the Solyte® midsole ensures a smooth ride.

  • Impact Guidance System (I.G.S.) enhances the foot's natural gait from heel strike to toe-off
  • Solyte midsole material is lighter than ASICS' standard EVA and SpEVA, combined with improved cushioning and durability
  • Space Trusstic System creates a pocket between the Trusstic System device and the midsole, allowing for greater midsole deformation and more efficient foot function
  • DuoMax Support System ensures that the shoe maintains proper support for the foot during the critical transition from heel strike to toe-off

Customer Reviews

Good shoe but ......

I recently purchased two Gel Evolution 5 through Amazon since I used to wear them before. I noticed that not even a month of use switching both pairs plus another old Cumulus 10 and other old Evolution the sole is already wore very bad in the middle of the sole. I ran a 20 miler last weekend being the first time with these 2 pairs and I can see that already gone. I don't walk on them I always finish to run with them and switch to other every day sneakers. I can see that maybe other two or three 20 milers and are totally gone. I am talking about having 50-60 miles per week including 20 milers. So I don't know what happened but are not lasting too long. If you have to buy new sneakers every 150 miles then every 2 month I would need to buy them. My old Gel Evolution 5, which I purchased last year lasted for at least 6 months with a 40-50 miles per week. Something changed in the material, they should stop making these shoes in Indonesia or Thailand or wherever Asics make them.

Expect pain and ankle problems with this shoe

I've been using the Asics Evolution line for years, and have been very happy with the shoe until I tried this latest version. In short, I have so much ankle pain and discomfort that I no longer run for fear of doing permanent damage. I have put my orthotic into the shoe and while this does help, it doesn't eliminate the pain and it changes the feel and fit of the shoe to have such a thick lining; it places my ankles above the edge of the shoe, which mitigates the protection and support that I require.

I'm very disappointed, and am looking elsewhere to solve this over-pronation, and, now, pain while running. Any ideas?

Most comfortable running shoe I've owned!

My feet pronate severely and for the longest time, I've been searching for the right pair of orthotics and have had no luck. I've even had custom orthotics made for me by a podiatrist which cost around $200 at the time. Nothing really allowed me to run consistently and for long distances but I was surprised to find that these ASICS Evolution 5 allow me to do just what I've always wanted to do. These are by far the most comfortable running shoes I've owned. My feet are so flat that when I walk out of the swimming pool, my footprints literally looks like gorilla footprints. It even makes the suction sound when I walk out of the shower. My feet have no arch whatsoever and I have gotten by in the past by just running and playing sports through the pain and thinking that this is what I have to live with. I am extremely happy to find that these shoes have allowed me to run or even sprint with very little to no pain whatsoever. The cushion seems to be holding up really well. I've put in close to a hundred miles of jogging on one pair and it still feels as comfortable as when I purchased it. I was told by a marathon runner to buy two pairs of the same shoe and alternate between the pairs to allow the cushion to "recover" which sounds like a reasonable and good idea. I hope a shoe company will soon come out with a pair of basketball shoes that provide the same support for severe pronation in the near future.

Perfect

I am overpronated.
Thsi shoe corrected fot it and allowed me to run longer without any pain.
I had pain until Roadrunnr sport analysis showed me my pronation issue.
Check your feet for over pronation - that is what this shoe is designed for.

Good Shoe, Not Great

I bought this shoe not knowing anything about them. They were comfortable and looked cool. I really liked the shoe and while training for a marathon bought a second pair to have on hand in case the first pair got soaking wet or if the cushioning went out. I am 6'0", 180 lbs. These shoes were darn good for 350 miles. I have put an extra 30 miles on them, but they need to be retired. I only have 20 miles on the second pair and I really notice the cushioning difference. Since I am planning on retiring that first pair I am thinking about a new pair to purchase. I know this shoe and I like it, but I may want to step up to a higher model. With a better shoe comes a higher price. I thought this shoe was a decent shoe for a decent price. It is a good choice. I am sure you can find a better shoe (and pay more for it), but it doesn't change that this shoe did me well.
